Radio astronomy, also known as radio astronomy, is the study of celestial bodies in the radio frequency range. With technological advancements, the prices of small radio telescopes have become more affordable, allowing the general public to easily observe the sun, the galactic center, and even the neutral hydrogen signals of Cassiopeia A. On the early morning of March 12, 2026, a rare astronomical phenomenon occurred in the sky above Hong Kong - a 'moon-occulted galactic center', where the moon visually blocked the galactic center. Local research teams took this opportunity to use radio telescopes to observe and record this phenomenon in detail.
In this lecture, the speaker will introduce the essential software and hardware for radio astronomy observations, share first-hand observation data and the latest findings on the 'moon-occulted galactic center', explain how to perform radio observations in Hong Kong in a straightforward manner, and demonstrate the relevant equipment on-site.
